Take time for you

Take time for you

How are you doing with your goals?  Are you being honest with yourself?  Summer is a trying time.  Kids are out of school, schedules are off, the days are literally longer, there are more social responsibilities for the kids and yourself, it’s hot, and there are new schedules to get used to.  How are you doing with all of it?  Are you remembering to take some time for yourself?  Did you drink enough water yesterday?  Did you go to the gym as many times as you were supposed to last week?  Are you being true to yourself?

In the hustle bustle of summer, it’s easy to for moms to forget to take care of themselves.  But you cannot be you unless you take a minute to check-in with yourself.  What do YOU need to do this week for YOU?  Whatever it is, take time to accomplish those things.  Ya, ya, ya, I know, you’re a memory maker and there are things you want to do for the kids to make this the “Best summer ever!”.  But that can wait.  They can have one day or one week where they have to make their own fun.  It will all be OK.  Take care of you and you will come back with a whole new fervor for the kids, summer fun, and life in general.  I promise.  Do you girl!

Take time for you.

Pennies from heaven

Hey mamas!

2-3-3

I hope you all had a fab weekend and enjoyed some comfort food and the Super Bowl halftime show.  I know I did!

2-3-2

My grandmother (my mom’s mom) died during my first year of marriage.  Growing up, I was very close to my Grandpa and my Grandma.  They lived about a mile from my parents and we would see them frequently.  I cherished my time with them.  My Grandma was always cooking or baking and always welcomed time spent together.  She had told me about pennies from heaven several times.  She would say, “If you see a penny laying on the ground pick it up!  It’s an angel from heaven talking to you.  But only if it’s heads up…”.  I didn’t think much about it, but I would pick up heads up pennies anyway.

After she passed away, I began to find heads up pennies everywhere.  They seemed to pop up during difficult or exciting times.  I knew it was her…just looking down and offering a hug or a smile.  The day my husband and I found out our first born would be a girl, I was stunned.  I thought she would be a he for sure.  I had planned his little life in my head.  I was excited to be a “boy mom”.  I was so wrong.  They told me it was a girl.  I was thrilled…but not at first.  It took me the whole ride home to get used to the idea.  When we arrived home I got out of the car to find a glorious heads up penny.  Grandma.  She was telling me to get excited.

During a particularly bumpy year in my life I found these pennies everywhere.  Having faith in that superstitious belief of my Grandma’s brought me comfort.  Isn’t it silly?  Silly and magical.  It has been something that makes me smile or makes me cry.  It has always evoked some kind of an emotional response.  I have been collecting them for so long.  I’ve wanted to incorporate all these pennies from heaven into my home for as long as I can remember.

2-3-1

Penny flooring, I remember house hunting and hoping that each house would have the perfect little powder room or entry way I could re-tile in the pennies from heaven I had been collecting over the years.  The house we ended up buying didn’t have the place for this.  But some day I know I’ll do this!  Wouldn’t that be a happy little space?!  Pennies from heaven…

Do you collect heads up pennies too?

Martin Luther King, Jr Day

MLK 7

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. day, here are a few of his quotes.  What an amazing man, there were so many words of wisdom to choose from, it was hard to narrow them all down.  I hope that these inspire you in one way or another.

I hope you have a great day!

Inspirational Monday!

1-6-2014

So, is everyone excited that the day has come for our little darlings to go back to school?  I’ve gotta tell ya, I’m not that excited.  I am looking forward to get back to our typical routine and to have a little less mess around the house in the AMs, but that’s about it.  My family had that superbug (the stomach one) over break, you know the one you’ve seen in the news that is ONE strain away from H1N1.  It was rough and very scary for our little ones.  Well, because of that bug we didn’t get to do all the things we had planned.  The break mainly consisted of taking turns being sick and taking care of each person and all the cleaning and quarantining that goes with that.  So, I could definitely stand for another week to do all the things we didn’t get to.  Not uplifting, but it’s the truth.

Small Biz Saturday and Christmas Traditions

IMG_5772

Does everyone out there still have all their limbs in tact after black Friday?  I went out for a bit, in the middle of the day and not at any major retailers.  Instead I shopped local, knowing that I couldn’t actually shop local on “small business Saturday”.  A week or so ago a girlfriend (Kindra from here and here) and I went shopping in some local vintage and antique stores (see that post here), and I saw a beautiful cathedral.  She and I both passed it up.  When I was putting up all my Christmas decor I got a bit of “decorators block” so I texted for help and she said, “Go buy the cathedral.”.  So I did.  I LOVE it.  Great advice Kindra!  What do you think?
