Valentine’s Day Playdate

Prepping for a family Valentine’s Day has really been bringing extra joy to my life!  So today I’m sharing a fun idea to spread the love to the kiddos.

Some people refer to Valentine’s Day as a “Hallmark Holiday”.  When I wasn’t married and didn’t have kids I always thought that Valentine’s Day has so much hype and pressure.  While it isn’t my favorite holiday, I still appreciate that we have one day of the year reminding everyone to tell their friends and loved ones how much they mean to them.  Everyone could use a reminder now and then.

To honor this special day, invite your friends and their kids over for a fun playdate that parents and kids alike will enjoy.  You’ll need to have a few crafts on hand the kids can do without too much assistance like large foam hearts the kids can decorate with stickers.  This way, everybody can have a Valentine to go home with.  Ask your friends to bring an appetizer to share that goes with the theme.  Here are a few snacks that worked for me!  And a few that my friends brought.

Inspiring Monday!

Welcome to November!

This is the month to be thankful for our blessings and our challenges.  When I have an attitude of gratitude, I find myself feeling happier in general.  And, it’s contagious.  My thankful thoughts spread to everyone I meet.  Plus, it’s super important to teach our kids to have an attitude of gratitude.  This is one of those things I say to my kids multiple times a day.  Since a picture says a thousand words, I am thinking about doing something like this with them:

I’m sure you get the gist, you write what you are thankful for and put it on the tree or in the jar until Thanksgiving.  Then share the highlights with everyone during Thanksgiving dinner.  Sounds like a wonderful activity for this time of year!

What are you doing to express your family’s attitude of gratitude?

This is happening today, you should totally go and take the kids if you can!  Here’s their Facebook page.

“The salmon ladder at Nimbus Hatchery in Rancho Cordova will open Nov. 4, signaling the start of the spawning season on the American River. California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) hatchery workers will open the gates in the ladder at 10:45 a.m. and will take more than a half-million eggs during the first week alone in an effort to ensure the successful spawning of the returning fall-run Chinook salmon.”

This is what I’m doing this week:

Monday, November 4th – Momtourage pay date at 9:30 at Catlin Park in the Prairie City neighborhood of Folsom and maybe leaving early to go to the Nimbus Hatchery

Tuesday, November 5th – Toodler Time at the Folsom Library

Thursday, November 7th – Fall Open House at Calkin and Boudreaux

Friday, November 8th – EDH Fire Station Open Houses and Holiday Open House and Preview Sale at Not Too Shabby

Saturday, November 9th – I’m hosting a Stella & Dot party with the incomparable Melissa Smith!

There are so many fun things happening this month.  It’s finally the holiday season!  This time of year can be very stressful, I’m not gonna lie, but it’s also magical.  No, I’m being serious.  I see my kids eyes light up at every gathering and every special treat.  That’s where the magic is!  Here’s a list of things to mark your November calendars for…you may need a sitter:
